Red Champagne rating. The best Russian champagne: Description, brands, prices

Any celebration is rarely complete without champagne. And already on New Year this drink is simply irreplaceable! But to enjoy this wine, you need to choose the right one. And here you should take into account both the quality characteristics and your own preferences. After all, the best champagne is one that is not only done correctly, but also you personally like it.

To make it easier to decide, it is important to know some secrets and features of sparkling champagne.

Choosing the best

Let's start with the fact that we call champagne any sparkling wines. Throughout the world, this name can only belong to those drinks that are produced in France in the Champagne province. It is believed that only in this area grapes have all the necessary properties to obtain the desired flavor bouquet. Only 3 grades are used for manufacturing wine berry- Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

But this does not mean that sparkling wines not made in Champagne are worse. If the manufacturing technology was followed and high-quality raw materials were taken for production, then the taste and aroma of such a drink is in no way inferior to real champagne.

For example, back in 1900 in Paris it was recognized as one of the best and won the Grand Prix wine produced at the factories of Prince Golitsyn. By the way, it is believed that it was after this event that Russian sparkling wines began to bear the proud name of champagne.

Criterias of choice

So, what to look for when buying a bottle of champagne.

First of all - on the price. Remember that it is cheaper than 200 rubles. it doesn't happen!

Also look at the appearance: the label should be glued evenly, neatly. The inscriptions are clear and free from grammatical errors. The dates of manufacture and the expiration date must be stated, all the ingredients are written, etc.

There can be no flavors or dyes in the composition! Also, there is no artificially added gas in real wine.

The bottle itself is necessarily dark, the liquid inside is without sediment.

When buying expensive copies, try to buy those that are both made and sold by one company. They are usually marked "N.M."

How real champagne is made

Real champagne is one that is produced in accordance with all strict rules of manufacturing technology. The classic process looks like this:

  • dry wines are made from grape raw materials;
  • depending on the desired result, the resulting drinks are mixed in certain proportions;
  • poured into special thick-walled bottles and add the so-called circulation liqueur (sugar, yeast and some other ingredients);
  • the bottle is well sealed and laid horizontally;
  • liqueur provokes the beginning of fermentation, carbon dioxide appears, which saturates the wine.

In this state, future champagne lays for several months or even years. When the fermentation process ends, a precipitate falls out - it is he who gives those notes to the drink, for which gourmets appreciate it so much. By the way, the flavor can vary from bread and fruit to nutty and even cheese.

After that, the contents of the bottles are cleaned of sediment, if necessary, add sugar syrup and the champagne is ready for sale.

An alternative to this method is tank fabrication. All processes are the same, but they take place in large containers (barrels, tanks). And the production period is shorter. This is exactly what most of the sparkling wines that are sold on the shelves of our stores do. But this does not mean that "tank" champagne is worse - an ordinary person will not even feel the difference when tasting it. But experts say that the bouquet of such a drink is always poorer than that made by classical technology... The difference between a classic and such a wine will be visible only on the label - domestic producers will write “aged” or “classic”, and foreign ones, for example, “Metodo Classico”.

Much worse if you come across a saturated champagne. In general, this drink can be called lemonade rather than sparkling wine... Bubbles appear in it after forced carbonation with a siphon. If the label says "sparkling", "effervescent", "saturated", then there is nothing from champagne. Most likely, and natural wine there is no - dyes, flavors, etc. Prices for such a product are, of course, low.

Types of champagne

When choosing, it is important to remember that any champagne is distinguished depending on the sugar content:

  • extra brut (Extra-Brut) - sugar no more than 6 g / l;
  • brut (Brut) - up to 15 g / l;
  • dry (Dry) - 20-25 g / l;
  • semi-dry (Semi-Dry) - 40-45 g / l;
  • semi-sweet white (Semi-Sweet white) - 60-65 g / l;
  • red semi-sweet (Semi-Sweet red) - 80-85 g / l.

In French terminology, sweet is called any in which sugar is more than 50 g / l.

Each type of champagne is good in its own way. But true connoisseurs believe that the less sugar, the brighter and more sophisticated the bouquet. In general, there is an opinion that sugar drowns out the real taste and even masks flaws in production. But if you do not consider yourself a gourmet, then sour brut, and even more so extra brut, you will hardly like it. The best option is semi-dry.

French manufacturers

With the terminology sorted out, let's move on to trademarks. If you want real champagne, then, of course, you should take a closer look at the producers of France. It is only important to immediately understand that such a purchase will definitely not be cheap. However, it is also affordable - not everywhere you can buy real products of the Champagne province. If you decide to try, then choose only the best brands.

Perhaps the most famous brand, leading the rating of the best wines in France for more than one hundred years, is Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. The founder of this brand was obsessed with winemaking and perfected the manufacturing technology as much as possible, reaching unprecedented heights in business. What is especially surprising for a woman, since all this happened at the beginning of the 19th century. The simplest champagne will cost from $ 80.

The closest competitor is Moet and Shandon (Moë [email protected]). This champagne was loved by Louis XV, Napoleon Bonaparte. And now the Queen of England prefers it. But thanks to the serious volumes, the prices for such royal luxury are quite democratic - from $ 70. It is this company that has been producing the legendary Dom Pérignon champagne since 1936.

Piper-Heidsieck is a sparkling wine without which no Oscar ceremony takes place. Marilyn Monroe loved him. The cost starts from $ 50.

By the way, the champagne of this brand is the most expensive in the world. We are talking about Hiedsieck Diamant bleu of 1907 - the cost of one bottle is more than 275 thousand dollars! This wine was sent to Russia, but the ship sank. A few decades later, the bottles were taken from the bottom of the sea, and Russian businessmen bought them at an auction.

Paul Roger is one of the finest champagne houses. This brand produces excellent vintage wine, that is, one that does not lose its qualities even after 30 years. Prices start at $ 80.

The demand for Bollinger champagne exceeds the supply. Interestingly, the brand also owes its fame to the widow. Lily Bollinger did everything to make this champagne one of the best.

Which Russian champagne is better

And we make champagne quite worthy. I am glad that prices for it do not start with such exorbitant figures. Among the huge number of manufacturing firms, these are worth highlighting:

  • Agrofirm Abrau-Dyurso (awarded with various medals, more than once received the Grand Prix);
  • OJSC Kornet;
  • JSC "Moscow Factory of Sparkling Wines";
  • AOZT "Sparkling Wines";
  • LLC "RISP".

Crimean wines are very tasty - unique weather conditions make it possible to obtain grape raw materials, which some connoisseurs consider even better than French. For example, I always try to buy Brut from the Novy Svet champagne factory. This is a delicious Crimean champagne, one of the best.

With what and how to serve

Serving this noble drink is also important correctly. Be sure to choose the correct glass or crystal glasses. Ideally - tall "tulip" or "flute" These are the glasses that allow you to "play" for a long time, presenting brighter and giving you the opportunity to feel the fullness of the taste and aroma of champagne.

According to etiquette, glasses "goblet" are also allowed, but such dishes are not suitable if taste is important to you, not aesthetics. Due to the large surface area and shallow depth, the bubbles evaporate very quickly.

Champagne is served with almost any food, but the variety and type of wine are taken into account. Sweeter goes well with desserts. And with seafood, cheeses, and some meat dishes, brut or dry goes well.

By the way, it is believed that fruits and chocolate - great addition champagne. In fact, this is not entirely true. For example, dark chocolate should not be combined at all - it interrupts refined taste this wine.

At the end, some tips from an experienced sommelier:

The study involved 56 brands of semisweet sparkling wine (champagne) from Russia, Abkhazia, Georgia, Italy, France and Ukraine. The cost of a bottle at the time of purchase ranged from 150 to 6121 rubles.

Samples were tested for 30 quality and safety parameters, including the concentration of carbon isotopes and sulfur dioxide, compliance of the beverage composition with labeling, compliance with sugar requirements and ethyl alcohol... The experts also discussed organoleptic characteristics, bouquet and taste of drinks.

A second study was carried out for those products that received the experts' discrepancies during the first round of tests. Roskachestvo gathered industry experts - certified specialists in the field of sparkling wines - and conducted additional tests.

Manufacturers rating

According to the results of the study, the products of the following brands were recognized as the best:

gold standard

Lev Golitsyn

Moscow

Moscow Elite

Russian champagne

St. Petersburg

Chateau Tamagne

  • "Gold standard";
  • "Lev Golitsyn"
  • "Moscow";
  • "Moscow Elite";
  • "Premium";
  • "Russian Champagne";
  • "St. Petersburg";
  • "Chateau Tamagne";
  • Marleson.

The test results debunked the popular myth that domestic champagne is worse than imported one. All nine of the best samples were produced in Russia. After checking the production, all trade marks were awarded the Russian Quality Mark.

The outsiders include 11 brands of champagne, produced in violation of the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union and the Law on Protection of Consumer Rights. These are products manufactured under trade marks:

Venecian mask

Golden Beam

Crimean sparkling wine

Russian champagne

Rostov gold

Soviet Champagne

Stavropol

Tsimlyanskoe

Madame pompadour

Sandiliano Desser Grand Cuvee (Italy)

  • "Venecian mask";
  • "Golden Beam";
  • "Crimean sparkling";
  • "Russian Champagne";
  • "Rostov Gold";
  • "Firework";
  • "Soviet Champagne";
  • "Stavropolskoe";
  • Tsimlyanskoe;
  • Madame Pompadour;
  • Sandiliano Desser Grand Cuvee (Italy).

In the course of research, it was found that some of the producers added carbon dioxide to the drink, actually passing off the usual "fizzy" for sparkling wine.

In one of the samples (Madame Pompadour), an excess of the permissible content of sulfur dioxide, a toxic substance and, in high doses, capable of causing suffocation, poisoning and headache, was revealed.

In champagne "Crimean sparkling" and Sandiliano Desser Grand Cuvee, the declared volume of ethyl alcohol does not correspond to reality. In the course of laboratory studies, it was also revealed that in champagne under the trademarks "Venetian Mask", "Zolotaya Balka", "Rostov Zolotoe", "Stavropolskoe" and "Tsimlyanskoe" (semisweet white), the mass concentration of the extract is responsible for the richness of the taste of the drink, below the level specified in GOST.

How to choose champagne

Wine or lemonade?

If you want to buy real wine, look for the names "sparkling wine" or "Russian champagne" on the product label. They are not here? With a high degree of probability, you have taken the so-called "carbonated wine drink" from the shelf.

“They (drinks - editor's note), as a rule, have beautiful 'foreign' names, reminiscent of Italian wine brands. The same bottle shape, beautiful multi-colored foil and a cork with a wire-muzlet. It can smell anything from peach to strawberry. They have a very distant relationship only to classic sparkling wine, ”says Ilya Loevsky, deputy head of Roskachestvo, curator of the“ Wine Guide of Russia ”project.

The value of the “fizzy” is questionable even at its low price. Such a drink can also be made at home using a siphon, grape juice, alcohol and water.

Price question

The cost of sparkling wine made from Russian grapes starts at 300 rubles (for a promotion - about 200). Even in this "budget" price category, you can find quite good drinks from local large producers.

Look for the words “Protected Geographical Indication Wine” and “Protected Designation of Origin Wine” on the label. This is a guarantee that the drink is made from grapes grown in Russia in a specific region - according to the law, it must be indicated in the labeling.

The PGI inscription - it can be found not only on the label, but also on the federal special stamp - confirms the payment of a preferential excise tax on this wine (it is now lower for wines made from Russian grapes, which also helps to make the wine cheaper on the shelf).

For the production of wine in large volumes, grapes can be harvested not by hand, but by special combines. It also lowers costs and makes the finished product cheaper.

What do we pay for

According to the technology, sparkling wines undergo two stages of fermentation. Yeast converts grape sugar into alcohol, then "circulation liqueur" is added to it, and the second stage of fermentation begins.

Wines made from Russian grapes using the classical method (the drink goes through the second stage of fermentation and aging in the bottle) are much more expensive - their price starts from 1,500 rubles.
Only wine produced by the classical method and aged in the bottle for at least two years can be called "collectible".

How to serve champagne correctly

Sparkling wines are cooled to 6-9 degrees before serving. Expensive collection wines can be cooled to 10 degrees. This temperature regime helps to fully reveal the complex aroma of the drink.

Inexpensive wines with residual sugar are drunk ice cold, that is, aged in an ice bucket. Just don't fill it with cubes all the way to the top. It is better to fill a third of the volume with ice and 2/3 with cold water.

Many people know that authentic wine, called champagne, is produced in the French province of the same name from certain grape varieties using special technologies. However, the sparkling wine produced for several decades, first in the Soviet Union, and then in Russia, is in no way inferior to the original samples. This is confirmed by numerous international awards. Let's try to figure out how to choose the best Russian champagne for a festive banquet, the taste and quality of which is as close as possible to the original.

Original French technology

If we discard those very specific grape varieties - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier - and consider only technological process production, we see that the production of original champagne is a very laborious process for which the technology of secondary fermentation in bottles is applicable. The entire process of bottle champagnization should take at least three years. It is this exclusive technology of French winemakers that guarantees excellent quality and incomparable taste of champagne.

Large tank production

It would be absurd to imagine that for such a large country like ours, champagne directly in bottles would not be superseded by improved technologies. The bright minds of the Soviet Union in the middle of the last century discovered and patented first the technology of champagne in large tanks, and then the production of sparkling wine in a continuous tank way. The Soviet (Russian) champagne produced in this way was noted as the best sample, not inferior to the classic analogue. Moreover, many foreign manufacturers have adopted the experience of Soviet know-how.

Abundance of modern manufacturers

In Soviet times, there were no problems with the choice of sparkling wine, because the range was very scarce. The monopoly plant, supplying store shelves for the holidays, was the only option. And now, given the fact that distilleries are growing like mushrooms after rain, it is not surprising to get confused, even if there are already some of the most preferred brands. How to choose Russian champagne from the abundance of brands on the shelves and what else you need to know before going to the supermarket?

We go to the store

From the abundance of bottles presented on the shelves, we immediately reject the options poured into a light container. Why? The dark glass of the bottle does not let light through and does not allow the sparkling wine to age, turn yellow and become bitter in taste. For example, we need Russian semi-sweet champagne. We will carefully study the marking. We know that there must be some sugar in wine. However, the presence of citric acid, alcohol, colors and flavors will cause the drink to fizzle out quickly. Well, and, of course, there can be no question of any foaminess in this case. In addition, if we do not want to have a severe headache in the morning, we discard this option.

Russian champagne: authentic samples

Real domestic samples of sparkling wine necessarily go through a natural fermentation cycle. Cheaper drinks only go through the carbonation process using special devices. Reading the markings on the label will also help determine this. We reject the option if we see the inscription "Carbonated" or "Sparkling" wine.

Next, we pay attention to the bottle cork. Many manufacturers seal containers with a plastic stopper. For example, the taste of a Russian drink with a similar cork will be significantly inferior to the taste of a similar drink contained under the cork. In this case, there is almost no air penetration into the bottle, and the characteristic sourness in the taste will never appear. The same cannot be said about the clogging of sparkling wine with a plastic cork.

Additional selection criteria

Pink sparkling wine, by definition, cannot be considered champagne. Exclusively all of the aforementioned grape varieties used for production original drink are white. As a result of this, the most popular among the Russian consumer was received by such a drink as Russian white semi-sweet champagne.

What else should we note? We avoid the capacious inscription “With the addition of flavors”. Naturally, every self-respecting producer places his legal address on the label, and also indicates sparkling wine.

Differences in price categories should not confuse the buyer. If he orders a banquet and is not ready to shell out an impressive amount for champagne alone, he only needs to pay close attention to the release date of the drink. Have budget options the shelf life should not exceed 1 year from the date of manufacture. Expensive drinks only become tastier over time, and it is better not to risk it with options in the middle price category.

And the last thing. Too low price should scare away the buyer. Here you need to figure out the cost in your mind and immediately draw the appropriate conclusions. We also say our strong "no" to bottles containing sediment and suspicious substances at the bottom.

Champagne Russian: manufacturer reviews

In fact, the tastes of champagne consumers fully coincide with the recognition of professional experts. Thus, the St. Petersburg manufacturer - the Sparkling Wines company - produces the Heritage of Master Lev Golitsyn brand, which has been repeatedly noted at various international competitions and brought home gold coins. It should be noted that the company was founded back in 1945.

The Moscow enterprise "Kornet", founded during the Great Patriotic War, also has an impressive history. The products are also awarded with gold and silver medals, and are highly respected and in demand in the consumer market. If we consider all categories of sparkling wines, according to consumer reviews, the most popular is Russian brut champagne, a white sparkling wine traditionally containing the least amount of sugar. Many experts and connoisseurs of the drink believe that sugar can muffle the true taste of champagne. The Moscow company offers all lovers original taste"Cornet" brut.

Champagne category "economy"

"How? - you ask. - Are there good producers inexpensive champagne? ” The relatively low prices and excellent southern quality were very popular among customers, and Istok's products were also awarded high awards.

Independently reviewed brands

Some brands of sparkling wines passed independent In addition to the above-mentioned popular and well-established producers on the market, the following experts passed the examination:

  • Russian champagne "Crimean".
  • Semi-dry champagne "Russian Gold" of the Togliatti company "Rosinka".
  • Vladikavkaz semi-sweet "Vintrest-7".
  • Petersburg "Venice of the North".

Choosing from the best

Now we have learned a lot about how real sparkling wine is made and which leading companies in the country supply excellent quality products to the market. We will see a fake and poor-quality product with the naked eye. But how to choose your drink from known quality products?

So, let's look at the sugar content. You don't have to memorize scorecards or look at familiar letters on a label to do this. We just need to understand that the minimum amount of sugar is in the Russian white brut champagne, and the maximum amount is in any sweet or semi-sweet sparkling wine. In addition, semi-dry and dry champagne are made exclusively according to the classical technology, but the increased sugar content indicates an accelerated production method.

The final factor in the choice the perfect drink will become a dense cork. The champagne of our dreams won't allow itself plastic on top.

Domestic champagne for connoisseurs and gourmets

In our country, aged sparkling wines are also produced with an aging period of at least 6 months after the completion of the champagne process. For true aesthetes and gourmets, collectible stamps are produced with an aging period of at least three years from the date of the end of the champagne process.

Alkali is the enemy of bubbles

Sometimes people who bought champagne wine quality brand, are surprised at the absence of characteristic bubbles in the glass. They are indignant: is it really a fake hiding under a well-known brand? In fact, you need to ask a question to the hostesses who wash the glasses before setting the festive table. What means do they use to wash their glasses? If any alkaline solution was used when rinsing the dishes, it cannot be completely washed off with plain water. Remains of alkali inside the glass can give a chemical reaction, and the bubbles will simply disappear.

    Some Russian producers also produce sparkling wines worthy of any holiday.

    What is good quality champagne and how to choose it

    Before heading to the store for a bottle (or box) of a festive drink of all times and peoples, it is a good idea to understand its “origin”.

    Good old classics

    The classic manufacturing method (as is done in Champagne) is a laborious and time-consuming process. Such wine is naturally saturated with carbon dioxide (festive bubbles), during secondary fermentation and long aging directly in bottles - this requires at least 15 months.

    The technology is known all over the world, but today only those few companies whose production facilities are located near vineyards use it. The fact that the drink is made according to the classical French method can be judged by the inscription on the label "Metodo Classico" or in Russian - "Aged", "Classic".

    Tank production

    About a hundred years ago, a method was invented that made it possible to speed up the fermentation processes dozens of times and, accordingly, reduce the cost of the product. The technology was called "reservoir" due to the fact that the wine is saturated with gas bubbles in huge metal containers (tanks), and not in bottles. If the intoxicated drink is made using this method, no markings are made on the labels.

    Most of the sparkling wine, which in our country is called "champagne" - is the result of such "accelerated" fermentation. The "classics", of course, have a richer bouquet and more shades of taste. But more often than not, these differences are found only by experts. Whether it makes sense to overpay for something that you cannot appreciate is up to you.

    Beware of counterfeiting

    It is much worse if the manufacturer is trying to sell you an ordinary, sometimes not very good quality, wine saturated with bubbles of carbon dioxide artificially (like lemonade).
    An indication that this is a surrogate product will be its low price and adjectives on the counter-label: “sparkling”, “effervescent”, “carbonated” or “saturated”. Set aside such a bottle without a doubt.

    How to choose quality champagne in the store

    We stopped in front of the rows of bottles on the shelves of the store - pay attention to the following signs of the “correct” sparkling wine:

  • Price tag. Good wine, even made by the tank method, cannot be cheap. At the same time, the products of well-known brands often do not justify the overpriced - get ready that you will pay for prestige, and not for a special bouquet and taste.
  • Bottle. For sparkling wine, use a 0.75 ml dark thick glass container that can withstand a pressure of at least 6 atmospheres. It is very rare to find it in bottles of 1.5 liters and large - their production requires special skill of glass blowers. Containers with a volume of 0.2 ml are used mainly by airlines and hotels, 0.375 ml - by restaurants.
  • Cork. Russian producers protect their wine with natural materials, not plastic. Cork made from balsa wood is difficult to see under the protective foil, but it can be felt - it is softer to the touch.
  • Label and counter-label. Look for such signs on them: category, expiration date, grape variety used in production, manufacturer's legal address and location of production facilities. Pay attention to the composition - there can be no flavors and dyes in a quality product! Carelessly glued labels, indistinct and smeared inscriptions should also alert.

If you want to protect yourself from buying low-quality champagne, go to buy it not in the nearest small shop, but in wine boutique, as a last resort - to a hypermarket. Do not buy bottles from a display case where they have been under the light for a long time - most likely, the drink has lost its quality.

How to determine the quality of champagne at home

The coveted bottle was bought and uncorked, now you can determine the correct choice by the appearance of the drink, smell and taste:

  • Colour. In authentic champagne, it is white, with a shade of light straw, sometimes the drink in the glass glows with golden-greenish reflections. Sparkling wine can also be pink or red. The color of the drink in the glass must match that indicated on the label.
  • Bubbles. Small ones, of the same size, play in a glass for at least 10 hours. They hissed and disappeared after 10 minutes - in front of you is a surrogate.
  • Transparency. The drink should be free of impurities and sediment.
  • Aroma. A subtle and exceptionally natural scent with fruity and citrus notes.

The presence of a yeast or alcoholic aftertaste indicates that the manufacturer does not pay enough attention to technology compliance.

How to choose champagne for the New Year

Eyeing sparkling wine to festive table, decide on its grade. It all depends on the content (or absence) of sugar liqueur in the drink. Look for labels for the following:

  • Doux - with a high (more than 50 g / l) sugar content, is quite rare.
  • Demi-sek, sec and extra sec - semi-dry (semi-sweet), dry and extra-dry, respectively, the amount of sugar varies from 50 to 20 g / l.
  • Brut and extra brut - with a very low sugar content (less than 15 g / l) and no sugar liqueur added.

It is generally accepted that winemakers use sweet liquor to mask material shortcomings or production flaws. For this reason, brut wines with their absolutely "pure" taste and aroma are absolutely popular all over the world. It is best to open a feast with such champagne, it is ideal with seafood, white meat, hard cheese.

Another thing is that in our country they traditionally give preference to semi-sweet or even sweet varieties, and brut is considered too sour. In this case, semi-dry can be an ideal compromise, which will be appropriate both for traditional Olivier and for sandwiches with black caviar. However, semisweet champagne for New Year's table there is a "company" - it can be served with fruit and cake at the end of the feast.

Russian champagne is tasty and inexpensive - myth or reality

In order to give yourself and your loved ones gastronomic pleasure, it is not at all necessary to decorate the table on New Year's with the elite Dom Pérignon or Moët & Chandon. And it is really possible to find worthy samples from domestic manufacturers at a very "our" price:

  • "Tsimlyansk wines". The factory, located in the Rostov region, produces excellent sparkling wines. The most famous of them is red, according to a unique Cossack recipe - perfect option for any celebration. Well, premium white Onegin is ideal for the New Year's feast.
  • "New World". The plant, founded more than one hundred and twenty years ago by Prince Golitsyn, pleases the consumer with the unchanged quality of its "sparkling products". The brands "Collectible", "Novy Svet", "Paradisio" are ideal for the festive table.
  • Abrau-Dyurso. The most famous champagne in Russia from a company from the Krasnodar Territory. In its assortment you can find sparkling wine made according to reservoir technology ("Russian Champagne", "ABRAU") and excellent "classics" ("Imperial", "Millesim"). One thing saddens - Abrau-Dyurso makes a big mark-up on a well-known name.

Now it will be easier for you to understand the large assortment of wine boutiques in the "intoxicated" hypermarket departments - you know for sure which champagne is good in quality, taste and aroma, how to choose it, and which domestic producers you can safely give preference to.

Experts of Roskachestvo in Russia have selected the best sparkling wines of domestic production.

Remind abuse alcoholic beverages harmful to your health. This material is not recommended for review by persons under 18 years of age.

Roskachestvo experts conducted a detailed sensory assessment of the quality and authenticity of sparkling wines made from Russian grapes. At the same time, an important selection criterion for the study was the affordability of sparkling wine. And here the price "ceiling" was chosen - 1000 rubles on the store shelf. When compiling the rating, Roskachestvo for the first time focused not on laboratory tests, but on the color, aroma and taste of the drink.

To conduct the research, Roskachestvo created a tasting commission of 23 Russian and two Italian experts. The most authoritative expert in the field of Russian wines, head of the Union of Sommeliers and Experts of Russia Artur Sargsyan became the head of the tasting committee.

The wines were bought in ordinary stores by Roskachestvo employees and were depersonalized before being delivered to the laboratory. During the research, neither the tasters nor the laboratory staff could recognize a specific brand of wine.

The quality of champagne was assessed according to the international 100-point scale of the World Organization of Vine and Wine. In accordance with the Russian GOST, a wine that scored at least 71 points in terms of total points is considered "good." For the convenience of customers, Roskachestvo has additionally translated the assessment of each wine into a convenient and familiar 5-point mark.

The study included wines from nine producers, for which the Russian origin of the grapes was confirmed. "Novy Svet", "Inkerman", "Zolotaya Balka" and "Perovskih Estate" represented the Crimean peninsula. Kuban-Vino, Myskhako, Abrau-Dyurso, Yubileinaya Winery, Fanagoria - Krasnodar Territory.

The best research wine in the category of sparkling wine produced by the classical method of bottle aging was the sparkling wine with a protected geographical indication Kuban Aged Brut Rose "Premium Rose" "Abrau-Durso" produced under the brand name Victor Dravigny. It received a maximum overall score of 84.9. The experts noted the excellent color and play of the drink; purity and quality of aroma, intensity of taste of wine, as well as its harmony.

The semi-sweet wine produced by the classical method, produced in the Crimea at the Novy Svet winery, was also highly appreciated.

But the other sparkling wines produced by the bottle aging method that passed the study did not receive high points and did not rise above 78.

Things are much better in terms of price-quality ratio in the category of wines produced by the more economical tank method. The best results here were demonstrated by sparkling wines under the Chateau Tamagne brand.

Roskachestvo experts talked about what to look out for when reading a sparkling wine label. First of all, on the very name of the drink. If there is no “sparkling wine” or “Russian champagne” on the front of the label, turn the bottle over and read the small print on the back label. In front of you may be a "sparkling wine drink", in which the wine in best case half the volume, and everything else is water and flavors. The external resemblance to sparkling wine often misleads buyers, and the low price encourages them to buy.
