Culinary Sketch 05/14/2018

In the summer heat, I so want to freshen up with a glass soft drink... A sparkling non-alcoholic mojito cocktail is perfect for this purpose. Homemade from available and useful ingredients, it will perfectly quench your thirst, delight you with taste and cheer you up. We will find out the recipe right now!

A non-alcoholic mojito would be appropriate for a summer party. Unlike its alcoholic counterpart, whose composition is rather strictly regulated, the "no degree" mojito is very variable. After all, he initially is not the same as the real one, therefore he is allowed a lot.

Irina Rybchanskaya, our leading column, will tell us about the composition and recipes of non-alcoholic mojito today. Let's listen to Irina.

Greetings, dear readers of Irochka Zaitseva's blog! The first ten days of May, and the thermometer outside my window shows + 30 ° С. How do we quench our thirst on such sultry days? and, of course, a non-alcoholic mojito!

I discovered this wonderful drink for myself quite recently. At first I was attracted by the beautiful name. Then I wanted to know what is included in its composition? Let's start!

As such, there is no classic composition. After all, a real mojito contains rum. Our modest with rum cocktail only the name and some ingredients are common. I will take the liberty of presenting as classic composition and the proportions of the components that I like the most.

Ingredients

  • 35 ml lime or lemon juice;
  • pieces of lime or lemon left over after squeezing the juice;
  • 80-90 g of crushed ice;
  • one teaspoon of sugar (better than brown, but you can also plain white);
  • five to seven leaves of fresh mint (garden, pepper, curly);
  • soda - until a full glass.

My remarks

Often in the recipes of non-alcoholic mojito, you can find sweet carbonated drinks - Sprite and Schweppes. I strongly discourage using them! In addition to the huge amount of sugar, they also contain many harmful chemicals that are incompatible with the concept of a healthy diet.

The composition of "Sprite" includes sodium benzoate - a very harmful substance to the body, sometimes leading to neurodegenerative diseases and cirrhosis of the liver. Sodium benzoate is also able to accumulate in our body. The composition of "Schwepps" includes a no less harmful substance - quinine, which causes vomiting, hearing impairment, and dizziness in many.

When I am asked how and from what to make non-alcoholic mojito at home, my answer most often is: "From simple soda, lime juice, ice, minuscule amounts of sugar and mint leaves."

If you do not have a siphon on the farm for the production of soda, then make simple soda water: dissolve a quarter teaspoon of soda in a glass of clean water, stir. Pour the soda into the non-alcoholic mojito glass just before drinking.

Non-alcoholic mojito at home - a simple recipe

The simplest recipe with a minimum of ingredients. If you are planning a party, then you need to make the required amount of ice in advance, squeeze out the juice from lime or lemon, make a soda, stock up on the right amount of sugar and mint.

Ingredients

  • half a medium lime;
  • 80 - 100 g of ice;
  • five leaves of fresh mint;
  • the top of the mint sprig (optional);
  • one teaspoon of sugar.

How to do it at home

  1. Wash lime thoroughly warm water with a brush, using ordinary baking soda, rinse very cold water... Cut into small pieces along with the skin.
  2. Wash the mint in good faith, shake it off.
  3. Put pieces of lime, sugar, mint leaves at the bottom of a beautiful wide glass. Grind all ingredients with a wooden pestle or spoon. Do this operation carefully. The aroma and taste of non-alcoholic mojito depends on this - the more juice and essential oils are released, the tastier and more aromatic the drink will be.
  4. Place crushed ice in a glass. Leave a few ice cubes whole.
  5. Fill a glass with soda. Garnish with a sprig of mint and a slice of lime. Serve with a straw. Drink immediately.

Non-alcoholic mojito recipe with strawberries and basil

Ingredients

  • 120 - 130 g fresh or frozen strawberries;
  • half a lime or lemon;
  • four to five basil leaves;
  • four to five large mint leaves;
  • one teaspoon of sugar or honey to taste;
  • 80 g ice;
  • 120 - 130 ml of soda.

How to cook

Sort fresh strawberries without removing the stalks, wash very thoroughly.

Mash up. Strawberries can be used both fresh and frozen (there is a detailed article on Irina's blog). It does not have to be completely defrosted. It is sufficient that it is suitable for kneading and mixing.

Wash the basil and mint under running water, pick them with your hands, and put them in a wide glass. Rub with a wooden spoon or pestle.

Squeeze lime or lemon juice, put lemon slices in a glass with basil and mint, rub.

Add sugar or honey, grind again.

Pour about 120 - 130 ml of soda over the strawberries and stir.

Strain the mixture through a sieve.

Put ice on.

Pour over the strained liquid, add slices of strawberry, lime or lemon. Serve with a straw. In addition to each glass, add a small strawberry spoon.

My remarks

  • I couldn't find lime anywhere, so I made mojito with lemon. It turned out great!
  • The taste is very refreshing, delicate. The combination of strawberries and basil, which has long become a classic, sounds great here in the company of meadow mint, which grows wildly in my garden.

Non-alcoholic mojito with kiwi

Please watch a great video on how to make a non-alcoholic mojito with kiwi and lime at home.

Non-alcoholic blackcurrant mojito recipe

I always "live" in the freezer. There are no fresh ones yet, but there are several packages left from last year's harvest.

From frozen berries all year round you can make wonderful vitamin drinks. Non-alcoholic mojito with black currant (without a drop of rum) has recently delighted our Cuban friend. He took the recipe home for a real mojito and said that he had never drunk the best soft drink in his life.

Ingredients

  • A handful of fresh or frozen black currants;
  • one teaspoon of brown sugar (white sugar, honey);
  • four to five mint leaves;
  • the top of a mint sprig for decoration;
  • half a small lime or lemon;
  • 80 g ice (handful);
  • 120-130 ml of soft soda or mineral water.

How to make

  1. Wash the mint in cool water, shake it off, cut into pieces, put in a suitable glass.
  2. Squeeze lime or lemon juice there, cut the rest into small pieces.
  3. Put sugar or honey, rub everything well with a wooden spoon or pestle. The scent will be stunning!
  4. Put the frozen black currants in a blender bowl, fill with soda, work until a liquid mass is obtained. Leave a few beautiful berries intact.
  5. Strain the resulting liquid through a strainer into a separate bowl.
  6. Pour ice into a glass, put whole berries, pour liquid, decorate with a sprig of mint.

My remarks

  • Great option! The taste is piercing, rich, very noble. The aroma is beyond praise.
  • Next time, if I manage to get an exotic citrus fruit, I'll try to make a blank from chopped lime and sugar for the future. In this case, instead of sugar, the resulting syrup can be added to the mojito to taste.

Non-alcoholic mojito with red currants and mint assortment

I decided to do a little experiment. I have a neighbor in the garden in the garden peppermint, lemon balm, meadow and forest mint (oregano, also known as oregano). But what if you make a non-alcoholic cocktail according to a completely new recipe - with an assortment of all this mint?

  • A handful of fresh or frozen red currants;
  • a handful of mixture of different varieties mint;
  • half a lime or lemon;
  • a teaspoon of liquid light honey (or to taste);
  • 80 g ice;
  • 120 - 130 ml of soda.

How to make a non-alcoholic mojito at home

  1. Mint different types rinse, shake off the water.
  2. Grind the assorted mint, sugar (honey), lime or lemon juice, chopped lime pieces directly in a wide glass.
  3. Pour red currants with water in a blender bowl, work until you get a red liquid with a thickening. Leave a few berries intact.
  4. Strain the resulting slurry through a sieve into a separate bowl.
  5. Put ice, whole red currants in a glass, pour over with liquid, decorate with a sprig of mint, a slice of lime or lemon. Serve non-alcoholic mojito immediately!

In hot weather, there is no drink that is more refreshing than a mojito cocktail, so be sure that the recipes given in this article will certainly come in handy.

There is no person who has not heard of the Mojito cocktail. A sweet refreshing drink is traditionally and, alas, mistakenly considered a purely feminine cocktail, but the fame that the cocktail gained in a matter of days did its job. "Mojito" classic is made according to a light, but rather strict recipe - this is what allows it to remain recognizable anywhere in the world, in addition to its light and stylish design.

The original recipe "Mojito"

Since the classic "Mojito" was invented in Cuba back in the 80s, they made it very refreshing and invigorating. The original and most popular option to this day is the alcoholic recipe, but there is also a wonderful non-alcoholic option that even children drink. The simplicity of the recipe also captivates - according to the traditions of the classics, the Mojito cocktail requires only four essential ingredients. These are carbonated water (standard soda is better), sugar, scented mint and lime. The fifth component is rum, and it is necessarily light and it is added, of course, only to alcoholic versions of the drink.

The classic recipe for alcoholic "Mojito"

You will need:

  • Soda, no fruit or other specific additives. (300 ml).
  • White rum. (50 ml).
  • Mint (take a few leaves, no more than 10-15 per glass).
  • Lime (you need lime juice, enough from one fruit; cut the second one into circles).
  • Ice. (the exact amount depends on your glass, split it and fill the container with it at least half).
  • Sugar. (2 spoons).

  1. First, prepare a flavor base. Fold the mint into a container and grind it thoroughly with sugar, adding a little lime juice. This will mix the ingredients better by being soaked in the juice. Do not rush at this initial stage - the taste of the prepared cocktail largely depends on it.
  2. Top with three cups of lime and sprinkle with pre-cooked crushed ice... The ice should be exactly half the glass.
  3. Now is the time to add the rum - just pour it out, it will be flush with the lime.
  4. The soda is poured last. Drinks like "Mojito" are usually poured to the very edge of the glass, but be careful - it still needs to be stirred. Stir well, and at the end you can add a nice sprig of mint on top.

A simple homemade recipe won't make you feel hard either. All components for "Mojito" can be easily bought and mixed by yourself, without the qualifications of a bartender. It does not even require special shakers, everything you need can be mixed with a spoon, and it is very difficult to make a mistake.

As you can see, the composition couldn't be simpler. Many bartenders prefer to cook Mojito with Bacardi rum - the taste of this white rum perfectly suits the fresh spirit of the drink, but many modifications and differences have appeared just as a result of experimentation and going beyond. Each bartender has the right to decide for himself how to prepare a cocktail.

Variants of modern cocktail "transformations"

The original "Mojito", which made first at home, then in America, and then around the world, is a real sensation - a classic. But time goes on and young bartenders now and then modernize old recipe, trying to breathe newness into it and not damage the unique taste of the drink.

"Mojito" with the addition of watermelon

This version of "Mojito" is alcoholic, always and without exception. It also happens that in the recipe, white rum is replaced by dark, but such changes are not for everybody. The main change is in the base of the drink - soda is mixed with watermelon juice or even completely replaced with this juice. Unusual combination alcohol and everyone's favorite berries plays in contrast, forcing you to return to such a mixture again and again.

Mojito with coconut

Beach lovers around the world have long appreciated the idea of adding coconut to a classic cocktail. No need to remove ingredients from recipe - just add to ice coconut milk or cream (no more than 25 ml). This will not harm the balance of the drink, it will only add another zest to the unique taste.

Mojito with apple

And here a simple, but very significant replacement took place, taking away a little recognition from the original. To make such a cocktail, you just need to replace the lime with apples. First use Apple juice(preferably natural), and put 3-4 slices of fruit under the ice. The taste is rather unusual and often criticized, but it has its own audience.

The undoubted plus of "Mojito" is that both the classic and any of its "modified" recipes can be made without alcohol, without losing the taste of the drink. Non alcoholic cocktail they are often served at the picnic table and there are few people who care how to drink the original "Mojito" and with what - there is no dish for guests that would not cardinally agree with it.

If you have not tried Mojito before, then there is no point in waiting - in just a few minutes at home you will receive a pleasant refreshing drink, which we have been drinking and have loved for so many years, with almost no effort.

Attention, only TODAY!

Mojito is an extremely popular drink in Cuba. Perhaps he comes from the Cuban patriots. It was originally a low-alcohol drink based on rum, lime and mint. They drank it very chilled. In the heat, it is designed to quench your thirst. Such a drink was prepared in the morning for the whole day, put in the refrigerator and sipped throughout the day. The drink is bright, refreshing, very pleasant to the taste. The recipe below is prepared for those who love mojito for its freshness and special taste, in a non-alcoholic version and with alcohol in the drink.

Non alcoholic mojito

To cook a mojito without an alcoholic degree, you will need a number of such products:

Carbonated water (2 liters);
3 lime fruits;
fresh mint (50-70 grams), can be replaced with lemon balm;
sugar ( better honey);
the pulp of any citrus fruit (finely chopped);
ice.

Lime needs to be rinsed, cut into circles. Pour the mint over with cool water in a colander, separate the leaves from the stem. Put in a tall decanter, mint, sugar or honey, lime, cut into slices, let it soak in honey.

Next, pour water, mix the contents, let it brew in the cold for at least 2-3 hours. Before serving in tall glasses, put the sliced citrus peel, then the infused drink, put a slice of lime, fresh mint leaves, a couple of ice cubes, insert a straw. Mojito without a drop of alcohol is ready! Let's refresh ourselves!

Alcoholic mojito

In fact, mojito recipes are somewhat different from each other. For example, there is such a well-known and widespread version of alcoholic mojito. For him you will need (portion for 1 tall glass):

50 ml rum (white);
half a lemon or lime;
5-6 large mint leaves or 3-4 short twigs;
150 ml of soda water;
cane sugar or brown sugar (1 small spoon);
ice.

We will prepare the drink as follows. Put mint leaves in a glass, pour sugar into it and heat in it. Cut the lime or lemon into slices, squeeze the juice from the fruit and put the leftovers in the glass as well. It's the turn of ice, then rum, then pour soda in a trickle. If there is no soda water - tip - replace the sugar in the glass and soda water with 150 ml of Sprite. You will get a similar taste. Alcoholic mojito is drunk exceptionally cold.
