About Restaurant Day

The concept of the event originated in Helsinki in 2011, initially with the aim of expressing dissatisfaction with the excessive bureaucracy in the field of the so-called “street food”. The main goal of the event is to show that almost anyone can open their own cafe or restaurant. The tradition spread throughout the world, and for the first time in Russia a Restaurant Day was held in Nizhny Novgorod. And for the third year in a row, Muscovites also have the opportunity to show their resourcefulness and culinary talents, or try themselves as a gourmet and strict restaurant critic. Yes, everything is exactly as you thought! Restaurant Day is a kind of "game for adults", where everyone can learn something new and useful for themselves or even for future business, as well as just enjoy the atmosphere of the folk culinary festival, get pleasant emotions from delicious food and pleasant communication.

What to do?

If you have never dreamed of a brilliant career as a chef or your own cupcake business, then you can fully enjoy all the culinary delights that many participants have prepared for you. Someone will delight us with original sweets, at some venues it will be possible to find unusual dishes from meat or fish, and diet salads from natural and healthy farm products will certainly find their audience - a variety of dishes and themes will delight even the most pampered gourmet! All treats will be on sale for a reasonable price so that everyone has the opportunity to try everything that catches their eye. There will also be many participants representing various hot and cold drinks - cocktails, juices, rare teas, coffee of all kinds and much more. Several sites will operate in Moscow, the full list of which can be viewed

The 2016 Moscow Library is a cross between a lecture hall and a free coworking space. Here they make dates, drink coffee, and study public speaking. Ekaterina Kamenskaya examined three libraries and made the following conclusion: it is not necessary to read in the reading room.

My mother was the first woman in her family who received a higher education (film studies faculty of VGIK) and simply could not come to terms with the role of a housewife. After several years of negotiations, dad let her go to work in the next doorway. In our house on Universitetsky Prospect there was the Central Children's Library No. 96, which is still in place. Here, in the Hall of the Senior Membership, Mom began to benefit the community.

The 1995 library smelled of dust and longing, and you could only speak in a whisper. Silence and asceticism are a faithful companion of a library book. "What are you doing? You can't run here! You are in the LIBRARY! " “You can't have a sandwich! It's a LIBRARY! " Etc. In the library, as in a steam room, in a temple or in a hospital room, you need to be quiet, otherwise some stern woman will scold you like a schoolgirl. An excessive love of knowledge often turns into disrespect for human nature, but this is so, by the way.

Two years ago, renovation began in house No. 37A on Leninsky Prospekt, on the site of the former library. A lovely place, high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and something like a bar counter promised that a decent restaurant would finally appear in the area. My husband and I were making idyllic bets. Novikov? Lamberti? Well, maybe Ginza at least? Fuck you. The library has reopened. Utterly hipster, with a long white table, ceiling moldings and an Italian mini coffee shop that makes great flat white. It turned out that the second coming of libraries and reading rooms is a new urban trend. Now everything is possible here.

And if you sometimes need free of charge coworking and new experiences, look for a library closer to home.

Russian State Library for Youth

Rare book room, comic book room and media laboratory. Conversations about Marxism-Leninism, yoga, public speaking, a course on photoshop and jazz improvisation. There is something to keep yourself busy, but the visitors are already very busy. Thank God, the peace and quiet in the libraries was canceled - now people, not books, are the main ones. The only thing that reminded me of the library of my childhood was the woman who read the filing of the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda. During an hour and a half spent at the RSLM, of which it took about ten minutes to register, receive a plastic card and find a toilet, I watched the following scenes.

A psychoanalysis session was taking place on three chairs right in the corridor.

- Well, it's about acceptance! She no longer lives with you, does not take money! - said the older woman.

- Yes, but this fear, it remains, - answered the younger, squeezing her knees.

In the third chair, the young man was reading an iPhone.

In the darkest room, a blonde and a brunette with the same haircuts, just children, whispered and kissed, sitting at the same computer. The blonde took great love initiative.

In the hall of foreign literature, a student and a boy of about eleven were studying. The boy was intelligent and smart - in a white shirt with a bow tie, a Vans cap with a yellow visor.

“Sitagi, gisi, nazu, asita,” the boy read, running his finger over the textbook, and the student sometimes corrected it. She turned out to be a Japanese language tutor.

The rare book room was closed.

In the hall of periodicals there were modern Esquire, Port, Liza and prehistoric magazines without pictures - Novy Mir, Moscow, Zarya and Foreign Literature, whose appearance has not changed, probably since the reign of Khrushchev.

Behind a glass wall in a comic book room, four Georgian girls were playing cards. They had a lot of fun.

Mon-Fri 11.00-22.00, Sat-Sun 12.00-20.00.

A small, cozy and fashionable library a stone's throw from the Leninsky Prospekt metro station. There are only two halls and a mini-coffee house between them. Croissants and cantucci. AD magazine filing. Complete Works of Andrey Kurpatov. New members of the community are given an Old Believer paper form, but it is not necessary to take books home or read them on the spot - you can just come to work, which many do. Now the weather in the library, as already mentioned, is made not by books, but by people.

The audience here is as diverse as life itself. The older generation is most socially active.

I recently brought bookcrossing books here. An elderly man appeared nearby and took possession of the book "200 laws of the universe."

“I'll tell you a boring thing now,” he suddenly turned to the administrator. - Toilet paper ran out, but you do not care.

- Why is there no case, - she answered. - It's over - now we'll hang a new one.

Visitors to library # 166 know that a neat grandmother in a beret sits on a low ottoman by the window almost every day. She comes to read the newspapers. Only once did I hear her loud, sonorous voice, which sounded throughout the reading room, mini-coffee shop and flew into the next room.

- Well, you must! - exclaimed the grandmother, addressing all those present and to the Lord God at the same time. - Well, wow, eh! Eight corpses!

Tue-Sat 12.00-22.00, Sun 12.00-20.00. Monday is a day off. The last Wednesday of the month is a cleaning day.

Library number 172 "Education of workers"

According to the rules of life in a big city, libraries, like gyms, should be within walking distance from the metro. Library No. 172, which is thirty steps from the Shabolovskaya metro station, is not crowded, so people are especially welcome there.

In a large hall, which would be suitable for a sports game, I was stuck near the bookcase of "Anniversary Books 2016". It included Woe From Wit, Tales of Sherlock Holmes, Tom Sawyer, and Crime and Punishment. While I was trying to Google the link between these books and 2016, a man walked into the library.

- Hello, something has not been seen for a long time, - she answered.

- What do you think, I'm sitting around? - suddenly cried the man. - What do you think, I have nothing to do ?!

- Yes, I just said that you have not come to us for a long time ...

- So I, too, like you - work! I have a lot to do!

I looked sympathetically at the woman in the wardrobe.

“You know,” she said, “sometimes you think it's better to remain silent. There is actually a neurosis clinic in the next house. From there they often come to us. They walk by and enter. Books are taken. There are normal, there are oh, how difficult. You just look at a person, and he is already rushing at you.

Marveling at the woman’s patience, I took the Strugatskys “It’s hard to be God” from the bookcrossing table and, without signing up to the library, went to the metro.

In 2013, our Restaurant Day was dedicated to the "crazy tea drinking" from "Alice in Wonderland", and in 2014 - to the preserves and jams from the books. In 2015, we were already tired of desserts, and my colleague suggested the topic "Buffet" - that is, a buffet table, snacks. We decided that it would be logical to associate the "buffet" with the literature of the Scandinavian countries.

On this day, pancakes (paper) were hung on all the doorknobs in our library. On the table were Carlson's meatballs brought by readers, Hildur Bock buns and meat sauce, Moominmama's pancakes, fruit drink from Emil from Lenneberg ... No wonder, because from Scandinavian literature we first of all recall the books by Astrid Lindgren, Tove Jansson and Andersen ... It was with them that the game program was associated, to which we invited the children while the adults listened to a lecture on Scandinavian design.

Children made pipes out of cocktail straws - almost like Niels, who traveled with wild geese. Those who were older, tossed cardboard pancakes in a frying pan, trying to catch them after a complete coup, in imitation of Pippi Longstocking.

By the way, in one of the stories about the strongest girl, the game "John's Mirror" was mentioned: the presenter makes any movement, and the participants repeat after him. With older children, we go through several circles; some show that it is simpler, others take the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and skills.

Younger readers, meanwhile, are playing simple games with a conventional fairy tale flavor. For example, they stretch on tiptoe when the host shouts in a bass voice: "Trolls!" The pace is accelerating, the presenter confuses the children with a change of timbre - a classic of the genre that can be easily adapted to the desired theme. As well as the game, when children frolic in the center of the circle, but must freeze abruptly when the Snow Queen "wakes up".

The new is the well-forgotten old. We took advantage of the opportunity to repeat the theatricalization of three years ago with our readers. After playing out the story about "coats", the children spontaneously begin to play the "Dui Pereduy" game from Lindgren's text.

From the lifestyle of book characters half a step to their environment. We lay out three leaves: green means forest, white means sky, blue means sea, and we name the representatives of the fauna of the Scandinavian region. The task of the children is to run across to the desired leaf, depending on where this or that animal or bird lives.

And, of course, we cannot do without fishing: two leaders, holding hands, portray a seine and catch fish-children who are trying to swim away from them. The main difficulty for our "fish" was the condition not to make sounds. It's hard to get into such a role when you are being hunted!

Nearby, kids paint paper fish, which are then supplied with a paper clip and caught with a magnetic rod.

By the way, what about the food? Readers swept it for twenty minutes, and then relished the cultural program. After all, it was a Restaurant Day not just anywhere, but in the library, where everything becomes a reason to be transported into the world of book heroes.

LIBRARY DIGEST WWW.E-OSNOVA.RU RESTAURANT DAY IN ST PETERSBURG LIBRARIES Restaurant Day is an international Food Festival, during which everyone can open their own restaurant for one day: at home, in a park or on the street. For several years of its existence, the project has become so popular that even libraries could not resist and decided to participate. One-day restaurants were opened in two libraries of the I. M. Yu. Lermontov of St. Petersburg - in the Children's and Open workshops. Cakes for book lovers CHILDREN'S LIBRARY On the territory of the Nursery, a cafe “25 kilo” has opened. The librarians themselves worked there. Irina Suslova, an employee of the Children's Library, spoke in more detail about the idea of a book cafe: “The idea to open a one-day restaurant arose back in the fall, when there was the previous Restaurant Day. I myself took part in the project both in the summer and in the fall, however, as an eater. And then some acquaintances began to urge me: "Well, you are so active in the Nursery, why don't you take part in the Restaurant Day too?" In the end, I said: “Come on! Let's not wait for good weather! We do it right now, that's all! ” What can be connected with a children's cafe, and even in a library? With books, of course! We immediately remembered how much delicious there is in children's books. The principle is this: each dish corresponds to some text. There are Carlson's buns and jams, Nosov's salt, pancakes, Woof-Woof sweet sausage, chocolate hearts, Maria Parr waffles and much more. Not necessarily for children - we also have the Golden Calf. The books are laid out right there on the tables - you can see which dish is from which story. And the name “25 kilos” is taken from a story by Dragoonsky, and we wanted us to have the same - with a lot of lemonade and fun! We cooked at home, yesterday and today. Readers also brought in all sorts of tasty things. It was also very important for us to attract Flying Animals, a project that helps children with oncology. We understand how important it is for as many of our guests as possible to learn about the existence of the project and cartoon # 2 (26) February 2015. The principle is that readers pay for the treat into the Flying Beasts donation box. Thus, we ourselves do not receive any benefit - only pleasure, and all funds go to charity. " OPEN WORKSHOPS New project of the Moscow Central Library M. Yu. Lermontova - "Open Workshops" - also took part in the Restaurant Day. The library staff was preparing the grill right on Ligovsky Prospekt. "OM" not only opened their own one-day restaurant, but also acted as a platform for other "tasty" projects. There were dishes of Serbian cuisine, and walkers, and snacks, and brownies, and even falafel, beloved by Petersburgers. And in the evening they all made dumplings together and watched a film with Louis de Funes "A Wing or a Leg". OM Art Director Budimir Voroshilov told how it all happened: “A restaurant day is interesting. OM has a great team, we love to have fun and relax together. At first we did not think about cooking ourselves, we just invited everyone to open their own restaurant on our site. This is how we gathered people together according to the principle of “sweet and salty”. And then they themselves got involved. Of course, this whole project is a pretty adventurous idea. Here "noodle makers" appeared at our place two days before the festival itself. I didn't even go into details, I just said: "Come!" But everything turned out great! : For the first time, a gastronomic holiday will be held in the Samara Regional Scientific Library and will be fully devoted to literature. In addition to food, the program includes poetry readings, literary contests and stories from famous Samara residents about their favorite books. Food will also be subordinated to the concept: participants will adapt their dishes to the tastes of their favorite writers and prepare snacks according to recipes from world classics. We publish a complete food guide: Gogol's favorite noodles, kulebyak from Chekhov's story, pie from the fairy tale of Marina Tsvetaeva and shawarma from the poems of all unrecognized poets.

If there is no god, then who invented the shawarma? The most popular fast food can finally be tasted not only in the stall near the Samara Central Department Store, but also at the festival of amateur chefs. Prepare mentally with our shrill Samara shawarma sellers.

Foody & goody

The guys will present innovative jams and toppings - plum spread, fruit curd, salted caramel, the already familiar basil jam and a novelty - ginger jam. Keeping in mind Shrovetide, they will bake pancakes - with cuttlefish ink (!), Spinach, avocado salad and strawberries with basil. The more satisfying one is quiche with salmon and broccoli, with pear, ricotta and dor blue, with eggplant, pepper and tomatoes, with spinach, with filo dough, broccoli and cherry. On the theme of the restaurant day, they will also prepare a "literary pie" - a kulebyaka described in Chekhov's story "The Siren".

Blondie and brownie

Desserts are the go-to meal for newcomers to the restaurant day, and the Blondie and Brownie home project is no exception. On the shelves - brownies with nuts brought from Bangkok, honey cake and chocolate cake with cherries, cupcakes and meringues. Bonus - liters of tea and the enthusiasm of newly minted restaurateurs.

Billi bar

Local baristas are convinced that coffee should be brewed exclusively in a wide snapback and a T-shirt with huge numbers. You can check how the uniform affects the quality of the drink using the example of the classics - americano, cappuccino, latte, mocha and cocoa. Coffee with a rap flavor is sold for 100 and 200 rubles.

"Corn"

After many years of wandering around city food markets, a couple of months ago the brand opened the first full-fledged store in the Aisberg shopping center on Dachnaya, 2. Sweets and punch were also announced.

"Bread story"

They offer to wash down with cold lemonade and a hot fruit drink. The organizers swear that there will be not only sweet things, but they are hiding the details, preparing a surprise.

Cosmonuts

Model Lena Pigulevskaya claims that after a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter, not a single waist has been stolen by gypsies. Her mini-confectionery produces an eco-friendly analogue of Nutella from Argentinean peanuts with natural sweeteners. At the restaurant day, a tasting of all flavors will take place - pure peanuts, Creamy with Jerusalem artichoke syrup and sea salt, Crunchy with peanut pieces and sea salt and Coconut with coconut flakes, as well as a new combination of Choco with natural cocoa. They will rivet sandwiches with the paste and just give it away in banks - 150 rubles apiece.

"Gallery of sweets"

"Goat Tapas"

Irina Kozachenko, an apologist for Spanish snacks on the Samara land, was inspired by the lines of Federico Garcia Lorca for the literary restaurant day, and plans to feed Samara residents with true Volga tapas, which any poet would want to describe. The filling contains sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese, vegetables and shrimps. The variety of ingredients will not reach peaches and candied fruits, as in Lorca's poems.

Katrin jam

Ekaterina Banartseva, who made her debut at the last restaurant day, will present sweet twists - but not at all like granny's. Tangerine jam with rosemary or juniper and gin, persimmon with coffee and Calvados, quince with ginger and other unusual combinations in jars of 100 grams and 150 rubles. The buffet also has salted caramel, candies and handmade chocolates.

"Cheese dairy of Anastasia Denisova"

An alternative to cheese from Pestravka, which has already appeared on the food market this year. According to the manufacturer, there are no preservatives or dyes in the products - there is only goat or cow milk from the farm, sourdough and "a little magic."

Lunch box

Noodles in boxes confidently hold fast food positions, not inferior to either rolls or burgers. On the subject of literature, the team will cook Gogol's favorite noodles - with turkey and parmesan in a creamy sauce. The rest of the positions are in place - with beef, pork, chicken and vegetables. They will ask for about 250 rubles for a box.

Juice for you

Food baptism awaits the shop. The guys rely on freshly squeezed juices: an orange, apple, pear, tangerine, grapefruit, carrot, pineapple will spin in the centrifuge, grapes and mangoes will be added to them at the restaurant day. The cost of a glass starts at 50 rubles, you can choose mono-fresh or mix several flavors. In addition to drinks, the program includes tuna sandwiches "from Mama Vali": a mixture of tuna, green salad and celery will lie on toasted toast bread.

"English from Tuesday"

Without knowledge of a foreign language, even in Samara, the team of the linguistic studio declares this and promises a discount to everyone who places an order in English. The announced program includes dishes, read in the books of British classics. We are waiting for oatmeal and something more.

"Kitchen 310"

Art Loft residents are guests of all city food markets. This time, the guys are playing up the Shrovetide theme and threaten to bake lush pancakes, which will complement berry jams, melted chocolate and whipped cream. For pancakes - spicy sbiten, the recipe of which was spied on by Gogol in Dead Souls.

Mary Cake Bakery

Confectioner Maria Pankina traditionally presents home-made cakes that refer to European desserts: cupcakes with cream and berries, trifles in glasses, custard rings with fruits, tarts with berries, craffins, pies and eclairs - everything from 100 rubles.

While you were sprouting wheat on the windowsill, the humble family company Neither Fish nor Meat has been proving for a year that plant-based cuisine is interesting not only for vegetarians. The main thing that you should go to the guys for is falafel, which you can look for in Samara only during the day with fire. Don't believe me? Read the proof.

Another event of the gastronomic holiday is the presentation of the El Gusto service: the team delivers home a set of products with a photorecipe, leaving only the meditative process of cooking to the customer. What happens in the end, you can find out at the event: guests will be allowed to taste ready-made dinners and will be given discount certificates.

Mad bakery

Home cooks, following Mayakovsky, call themselves miracle workers of everything that is festive. A teacher of foreign languages and a novice pastry chef will treat you to cupcakes - we jump into a carbohydrate window with a tambourine and songs.
